worse battery life ever

This is suppose my mum's Christmas gift. She likes the everything of it, but the battery life is a bummer. The battery was loaded in the laptop when we received it. It says it's 85% in the battery and can last for about 5 hours. But the battery died in 2 hours with doing nothing but sit there with the screen on. Then we charged it to full, unplug it and watched some video to keep it run. It just lasted a little bit more than 1 hour! Even my one year old dell laptop can last much longer than this by doing the same thing. We tested it several times, all just got about 1 hour battery life. I don't know it's just the particular one laptop problem since the key specification says "Up to 5.8 hours of battery life (6-cell battery) " so I ordered a replacement with Amazon to hope the battery of the second one I get will be good.

The replacement service of Amazon is amazing! I got the second one in two days. So far the battery life is longer than the first one, but nothing near 5.8 hours. It's about 2 and half hours by just watching videos to keep it on. For the first time charging to full, the notification just keep telling us it's 99% charged, could not get it 100% charge without restart the computer. And even the notification says it still has 2 hours left, it really doesn't. It just died.

I am keeping test it and hope I don't need to send it back since as I said it's suppose the Christmas gift I give to my mum.

The rest of part of the computer is satisfied so far. It's a good looking computer and running smoothly for daily use. If you always keep it plugged, it's a really nice laptop.

I just wanted to give a quick review of this product. I bought mine from Wal-Mart for $490 I think the only difference between the one from Wal-Mart and this one is that this one doesn't come with Bluetooth other than that the same exact specs. I will say that the battery life is not that great. I think you could get 5 hours of battery life if you turned off wi-fi and you used Toshiba's "Eco mode" the "Eco mode" gives you a lower screen brightness and slows your computer down a tad you will notice a difference when your running multiple programs or trying to download something. The speakers are not super loud and don't have any bass or treble but just make sure to adjust them when you get the computer. I suggest getting speakers or us earbuds if you like to listen to music out of your laptop. It doesn't get warm at all and even when I am running multiple programs which is nice. I played a CD, downloaded Microsoft Starter and ran the internet (on Chrome) at the same time and nothing slowed down or stopped working. So far so good I recommend uninstalling Norton and installing Microsoft Security Suite that was actually recommended by an IT guy that I worked with he said that they keep the software updated and Norton is annoying anyway with all the pop ups every time I open up a webpage. I also recommend uninstalling all the Toshiba bloatware it's not as bad as other brands but they are not useful at all and it slows down computer start up time.

This is my second Toshiba in the Satellite series and the last one I had worked like a horse except the battery went bad fairly quickly on my older one. Get an extra battery for your laptop they go out quickly anyway and it will help you out especially if you plan on taking it to class or work. I will update if anything ever goes wrong with it.

The wife loves it so far.

The wife is very happy with the machine. She loves the keyboard layout. My only complaint is that it didn't come with a Window 7 disk. No offense to Toshiba but I always like a clean install. I'm also not sure why but the screen randomally had a bunch of lines going horizontally across the screen. I looked it up and it may be a driver/windows 7 issue. I happened to her former sony vio as well which also had windows 7 so I can't tell.  Too see the price
